OVERVIEW

As Head Barista of Joey’s at JAB, you are responsible for overseeing daily café operations, upholding exceptional drink quality, training barista staff,, and ensuring the café maintains the premium standard expected by our committed members. This role blends hands-on barista work with strong leadership, and both product and service excellence.
You will have the daily support of the JAB Club Manager, who will take lead on team and stock management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coffee Quality & Service -

Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based and specialty coffee drinks to a premium standard.
Maintain consistency in taste, presentation, and speed of service.
Implement and maintain recipes, calibration routines, and quality control procedures.
Lead by example during busy periods with calm, efficient workflow.

Team Leadership & Training -

Train, motivate, and mentor the barista team to maintain premium standards.
Conduct regular skill assessments, calibration sessions, and service refreshers.
Support the Club Manager with scheduling.
Foster a positive team culture aligned with the Joey’s brand and service ethos.

Operational Management -

Support the Club Manager with stock ordering, rotation, and waste reduction.
Oversee cleaning routines, equipment maintenance, and café hygiene compliance.
Work with management to refine menus, seasonal specials, and product offerings.
Ensure till operation, and payment systems follow company processes.

Member Experience -

Deliver warm, personalised interactions that enhance the member journey.
Engage with gym members professionally and proactively.
Maintain a clean, welcoming café environment at all times.

Health, Safety & Compliance -

Ensure full compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and allergen regulations.
Keep accurate cleaning logs, temperature checks, and HACCP documentation.
Support the club manager with ensuring all team members are trained and compliant with best practices.

REQUIREMENTS

2+ years experience
Level 2 food safety certificate
Fluent in English
Strong specialty coffee knowledge (dial-ins, grinders, extraction theory, latte art)
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maximise relationships within a diverse team
A passion for people, with a natural ability to build rapport with whoever walks through the door
Organised, driven and reliable
Able to work weekends and bank holidays
Experience in a premium hospitality environment (gym, hotel, boutique café, members club preferred).
Valid Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Certificates
